Edgar Allan Poe’s Project
This year the pupils of 4t ESO have worked on a project dedicated to the American writer Edgar Allan Poe. Poe was born in Boston in 1809 and died in 1849. He is widely known both for his dark Gothic short stories and as the inventor of detective fiction with tales such as The Murders of the Rue Morgue.
Students have focused their research in three short stories, The Black Cat, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Cask of Amontillado. After a close reading of the stories, they have analysed the narrator’s persona, the main characteristics of the unreliable narrator and the stories’ dramatic structure using Freytag’s pyramid to guide them.
